Studio Love and Acts of Random Kindness

Is it wrong that I am so thrilled with the new recording project that my own music brings tears to my eyes? Is it wrong that I am so thrilled with my new recording project that my own music brings tears to my eyes?
Monday I was at the studio for 6 hours. SIX. We even ate at the studio. I felt like a real recording artist!! By the time I got home I was exhausted. But I am so purely and simply happy as when I am in the studio. The Amazing Denny (http://www.dennyosburn.com/) laid down more keyboard tracks, and folks I gotta tell ya: The man can make you weep.

ARK. Acts of Random Kindness. I recently discovered that performing these acts can be more difficult than I anticipated. For one thing, unless you are acting anonymously or super-secretly, your success depends on someone’s willingness to accept an act of kindness. Of course, you must also set your ego aside and entertain the notion that not everyone even shares your idea(s) of what constitutes an act of kindness.
So I’ve been feeling frustrated. I haven’t felt like I’ve been able to return to the Universe the great kindnesses I receive on a regular basis: the gifts of my husband, friends, music projects, etc.
Yesterday, however, I performed with a group called Heartbeat Harmonies. HH takes music to nursing homes and long-term care facilities. Over Christmas we hit a variety of locations, but yesterday we focused on a group of Alzheimer’s care homes. While not necessarily random, this act was certainly welcomed and appreciated, by both the residents and staff. Wherever my mood is, it is uplifted by sharing music with these people. I am greatful for the opportunity to use my music skills like this.

Keep your eyes open for upcoming updates. I have several shows scheduled for the spring, both solo and with Street Corner Choir. And David and I are working on a CD Release party for the duo album.
Be good to each other and take care of yourselves!
Website Re-Launch!
by Lezlie on Feb.22, 2010, under Uncategorized
2-22. That seems like a great day to start blogging again.
I keep waiting for some “big day” to re-launch my website. First it was going to be New Year’s Day. Then Ground Hog Day. What’s next? Spring? I don’t want to wait that long. I am forever waiting…. Waiting for winter to be over, waiting for spring to start, waiting for conditions to be better to write… Waiting, waiting, waiting…..
This weekend was the Celebration of Life for a friend of mine from high school who died of cancer. Wait? I do not honor the memory of the departed by waiting.
So this is me not waiting.

Welcome to my newly revamped website! Oh-so-much has happened since I last blogged.
Personal
I spent summer ’07 – summer ’08 in upstate New York. I didn’t play much music, but I gained some much-needed perspective. I also roughed out a few short one-acts that I continue to be excited about.
Last year I moved yet again. Yes folks, I am – alas – a Kansan. And don’t tell anyone I said so, but it ain’t too bad. In even bigger news, I got married in September. The Rhino (long story) and I are incredibly happy and enjoying our new life together. He is completely supportive of my music and writing careers – emotionally, spiritually, and physically. What a gift!
Writing
As I mentioned above, I’ve been doing some writing over the past couple of years. I’d love to take a handful of my one-acts and host a reading of them to get a better idea of where revisions need to happen. I’m ready to start submitting again!
Music
Where do I start?
My solo career is taking off in exciting new directions. Though you haven’t seen me out live much, I have been very busy. I have signed with a local label, Enneagram Records ( http://enneagramrecords.com ), and am back in the studio. We have 17 tracks laid down and the dailies get more exciting each week. By the time we are finished we’ll have a full album, plus a handful of finished songs for the next one. We also have a list of songs with a Celtic flavor that we’ve not even recorded scratch tracks for yet.
For those of you who don’t have your copy of Fool’s Moon yet, we’ve had more produced, and they can be purchased at the Enneagram site.
For those of you curious about what I’m doing now, check back often. I just might start sharing some snippet from our dailies.
Many of you know that I’ve also been playing music with David Hakan in a duo act called Street Corner Choir ( http://streetcornerchoir.com ). We just finished our first duo album, which is complete but for the call from the printer! You will soon be able to buy them at gigs and from CD Baby. We have performances scheduled around the KC metro and in Excelsior Springs.

So there you go. There’s a little catchupdate. As we go along I’ll say more about my fun with Enneagram and the story behind Street Corner Choir. Thank you so much for reading and listening.
Stay safe and be good to each other!
